Bad news here. The more effort we put into trying to keep kids safe, the more effort the too-bright-for-our-good-little horrors will put into trying to find trouble.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't be aware of trouble and teach them how to cope with it. Not scaring them or wrapping them up in cotton wool, but teaching them how to be survivors.
Obviously, that's a lot easier said and done, but there are some good ideas here https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/ Most of all though, keep talking to them especially if they're not listening. Because someday they'll grow up and be parents themselves and then they'll be sorry for the way they treated you!
Good luck, and stay safe yourself.
